The School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE), University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) originated from the computer teaching and research section established in 1973. Then the computer application major was set up in 1975). SCCE has made great progress in discipline construction, scientific research and education over the past four decades.
Established in 2011, SCCE has 4 undergraduate majors—Computer Science and Technology, Communication Engineering, Information Security, and Internet of Things Engineering; 2 first-level discipline doctoral programmes—Computer Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering; 5 second-level discipline doctoral programmes—Computer System Structure, Computer Application Technology, Computer Software and Theory, Communication and Information System, Signal and Information Processing; 3 postdoctoral programmes—Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering; 2 second-level disciplines listed as Beijing Key Disciplines—Computer System Structure, Communication and Information System; 2 first-level disciplines in master's degree programmes—Computer Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering; master degree of engineering in 2 disciplines—Computer technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering. The school has 1698 undergraduate students, over 900 doctoral and graduate students, and more than 130 foreign students.
Faculty in our school are knowledgeable, with a reasonable age structure and active academic thinking. It consists of 135 teaching staffs, including 103 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 1 Distinguished Professor in Chang Jiang Scholars, 1 winner of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and 1 winner of the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, 3 New Century Excellent Talents in University by Ministry of Education, 25 doctoral supervisors, 29 professors and 48 associate professors.
Our school has undertaken over 150 projects, including projects in National High-tech Research and Development Program ("863" Program), National Science and Technology Support Program, National Basic Research Program ("973" Program), key projects in National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Research and Development Program of China and some provincial key scientific research projects. We have rich achievements in scientific research and have won more than 20 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, such as the first and second prizes of National Award for Science and Technology Progress, the first prize of Natural Science Award of Jiangxi Province, the second prize of Natural Science Award by the Ministry of Education, the second prize of National Technology Invention Award, etc.
In 2018, based on the set up of many leading subjects like Computer Science and Technology, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, University of Science and Technology Beijing was established. The research institute is attached to the School of Computer and Communication Engineering, with Professor Long Keping (dean of SCCE) as its director. In recent years, the comprehensive strength of Computer Science in our school has been improved steadily and disciplines in the field of information also enjoys a good momentum of development. Since July 2018, the discipline of Computer Science in our school has ranked in the top 1% of the ESI and the ranking continues to rise.
Adhering to the fine tradition of “Houde Boxue, Qiushi Chuangxin" (meaning “Having great virtue and extensive knowledge, seeking for truth and innovation” in Chinese) and depending on the advantage of its information subject, our school has trained more than 4400 graduates. These graduates are top-notch innovative talents and have won our school a good reputation in the society. Many of them have already become leaders or elites in ICT industry.
In the future, our school will give full play to its disciplinary advantages, actively catering to the major strategic needs of China. We will develop towards a multi-disciplinary research school with distinctive characteristics in disciplines, with superiority in subjects of Computer Architecture and Communication and Information System, and with great influence on the world in many interdisciplinary disciplines like Internet of Things, Intelligent Information Processing, Cloud Computing, etc.
